Personal Computer: Perplexity’s Personal AI Assistant
Perplexity has begun a phased rollout of Personal Computer — an extension of the Perplexity Computer mode that brings its capabilities directly onto users’ devices. The update reshapes how people interact with their computers, turning them into autonomous digital assistants for both everyday and professional tasks.
The system works with local files, applications, connected services, and web resources. Instead of manually performing actions or switching between programs, users define a goal, and the AI breaks it down into steps and executes them across different environments.
Personal Computer unifies digital tools into a single workspace. It can move between documents, messages, files, and online sources, interacting with them as part of one cohesive system rather than separate applications.
On Mac devices, including Mac mini, the extension can run in the background. It helps organize folders, manage task lists, compare local data with online information, and perform actions in email and messaging apps.
Perplexity emphasizes control and transparency in the system’s operation. Users can see all AI actions and intervene or stop processes at any time. Data is processed in a secure environment to ensure operational safety. Early access to Personal Computer is granted to Perplexity Max users, followed by a wider rollout for those on the waiting list.
