TikTok Adds AI Video Tool
TikTok has unveiled a new AI-powered feature, “AI Alive,” that lets users animate static images directly in Stories. Available exclusively through the platform’s Story Camera, the tool transforms photos into brief video clips with added motion, sound, and creative ambiance.
This innovation enables users to bring visual depth to otherwise still images. For example, a tranquil photo of a beach may evolve into a clip with drifting clouds, shifting skies, and ambient wave sounds. Group selfies can be enhanced with subtle expressions and natural gestures, offering a more immersive storytelling experience.
The rollout follows TikTok’s earlier venture into AI with its text-to-image generator but marks a more advanced step by enabling full video creation from stills. While Instagram and Snapchat have already adopted text-to-image AI features, TikTok moves ahead by offering a more dynamic output. Snapchat has announced similar plans, but TikTok is the first to make this functionality live.
All videos made using AI Alive will carry an "AI-generated" tag and embed C2PA metadata – technical data that confirms the content was created using artificial intelligence, helping identify the source even if the content is saved and reposted elsewhere.
According to TikTok, user safety is central to the feature's design. The system conducts multiple layers of content review, from the original image and AI prompt to the finished video, before anything reaches the user. Once a story is published, a final moderation step ensures compliance with platform guidelines. Users can also report AI videos that may breach community standards.
To try AI Alive, creators can access the Story Camera via the Inbox or Profile tab by tapping the blue "+" icon. After selecting a photo from their Story Album, they’ll see the AI Alive option in the editing menu, unlocking new creative potential with just a few taps.
