Users of the social network TikTok received a "Dislike" button and can now express a negative attitude towards comments.

The developers of TikTok have given users of the social network a “Dislike” button so that they can express their dissatisfaction with inappropriate comments in this way. The decision to roll out the new feature comes after the completion of testing this summer to explore ways to combat offensive, hate-inciting content. The negative feedback button, according to the developers, will allow the TikTok community to self-moderate.

The "Dislike" button is located next to the "Like" button, below the comments. It looks traditional – this is the image of the thumb turned down. But it does not work at all as many expected. You can't see the number of dislikes given to a comment. Most likely, it is available only to the team of moderators of the social network. Also, negative reviews cannot reduce the number of likes. What is this button for then? It can be assumed that it is needed as a "signaling" – a way to draw the attention of moderators to irrelevant comments.

Massive dislikes are unlikely to lead to the lightning-fast deletion of a comment with a negative load. The only exceptions are those that are offensive or violate the rules of the TikTok community – such, of course, are deleted immediately. It is still difficult to assess the benefit of this innovation for the comments section of the social network. This can only be done with time.
