SoundCloud Acquires Nina Protocol to Empower Independent Artists

SoundCloud has announced the acquisition of Nina Protocol, a platform that helped independent musicians share their work, engage with fans, and build their own music communities. After Nina decided to shut down its standalone service, SoundCloud acquired its assets to preserve the opportunities created for artists and bring them into its ecosystem.

The platform plans to retain key elements of Nina, including its editorial archive and genre map. The collection of materials about artists, music genres, and emerging scenes will become an additional tool for discovering promising talent and helping listeners explore more independent music.

Nina artists will be able to move their tracks, followers, content, and creative projects to SoundCloud through a simplified migration process. After the transition, they will gain access to tools for audience growth, direct fan communication, and music monetization. These include Fan Support, direct-to-fan music sales, distribution with full royalty retention, as well as opportunities for merchandise and vinyl releases. 

The acquisition of Nina Protocol continues SoundCloud’s focus on supporting independent musicians. The company is expanding its creator tools to help artists analyze audiences, promote releases, upload unlimited tracks, and build sustainable careers while maintaining control over their creative work.
