Elon Musk's recent announcement about implementing a monthly fee for X users has unintentionally given its competitor, Bluesky, a significant boost. Following Musk's revelation, Bluesky experienced a surge in its daily user engagement. At a live broadcast on September 18, Musk explained the rationale behind X's subscription fee, emphasizing the challenge of managing the rampant bots on the platform. However, this strategy didn't sit well with X enthusiasts, propelling Bluesky's metrics upward.

A follow-up analysis by Mashable underscored the ripple effect of Musk's statement, pointing out that Bluesky garnered a remarkable 53,585 newcomers by the end of September 19. This surge equates to a 5% growth in Bluesky's overall users, now tallying around 1.13 million.

Echoing this sentiment, a study from Similarweb revealed that on September 18, Bluesky's Android app had a whopping half a million users, with a notable spike in website visits. The study further showed a 20.6% day-on-day rise in Android users. Although iOS figures remain pending, Similarweb predicts a similar trajectory.
