Microsoft is rapidly expanding its AI capabilities by adding DeepSeek R1 to Azure AI Foundry and GitHub. This solution opens up new opportunities for Microsoft users, as R1 has low training costs and is less dependent on expensive computing resources compared to competitors such as OpenAI.

Microsoft says that integrating R1 into Azure AI Foundry will allow developers to quickly test and deploy AI solutions. The model has undergone extensive security testing, including automated behavioral assessment and analysis of potential risks. The company also plans to release a compact version of R1 for local use on Copilot Plus PCs and expand its use in other products.

Despite its successful launch, the model has drawn attention not only for its technical merits but also for possible irregularities in its development process. Microsoft and OpenAI are investigating whether DeepSeek used OpenAI’s API to train R1. Cybersecurity researchers have found suspiciously large amounts of data being transferred through OpenAI developer accounts, raising questions about the origin of the model’s training dataset.
