Messenger Unveils Communities Feature
Following the successful launch of WhatsApp Communities in 2022, Meta is now bringing a similar feature to Facebook Messenger. Users can now utilize this new feature to establish exclusive areas for instant communication within the Messenger platform, distinct from the Facebook Groups.
It's important to distinguish Messenger Communities from the previously introduced Community Chats within Facebook Groups. While Community Chats, launched in 2022, allowed group members to connect in real-time, Messenger Communities offer a separate space for interaction, completely separate from Facebook Groups.
A Messenger Community can host up to 5,000 participants, creating a vibrant space for interaction and collaboration. Users have the option to become part of these communities by using shareable links, which helps streamline and optimize the onboarding experience.
One of the key differences between Messenger Communities and their WhatsApp counterparts is the invitation process. Messenger utilizes Facebook's social graph to enable users to invite others using their Facebook profiles, eliminating the necessity for phone numbers that are required for WhatsApp Communities. This strategy enhances the accessibility of Messenger Communities, making it available to a wider range of users.
