Google is expanding the personalization of its AI-powered Search feature, AI Mode, by introducing Personal Intelligence. The update enables the tool to access users’ Gmail and Google Photos to deliver more tailored responses for complex queries. This feature, which debuted within the Gemini app, allows the AI assistant to access the Google ecosystem, including Gmail, Photos, Search, and YouTube history.

Personal Intelligence is now being rolled out to users subscribed to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra, with the feature available in English and requiring opt-in. By tapping into data already stored across Google services, the company aims to offer a more individualized experience that competitors may struggle to match. Users retain control over their privacy, as Personal Intelligence can be enabled or disabled at any time.

Google provides examples of where Personal Intelligence can be useful. When planning a family trip, AI Mode can use hotel reservations from Gmail and travel photos in Google Photos to suggest an itinerary that everyone will enjoy, from interactive museums for kids to ice cream shops, based on real preferences. The service can also help with shopping by analyzing past purchases and preferred brands, as well as details of an upcoming flight, to recommend, for example, the right coat for the weather and style.

Google clarifies that AI Mode does not train directly on Gmail or Photos content. Instead, it trains on specific prompts and the model’s generated responses.
