Google is experimenting with a new tool called Opal, currently available to users in the U.S. via Google Labs. This innovative app enables users to create mini web applications simply by typing text prompts or by customizing existing apps found in a gallery. Users just describe the app they want, and Opal’s underlying Google AI models do the heavy lifting to produce it.

Once the app is generated, users enter a visual editor that displays the workflow steps including inputs, outputs, and generation stages. Each step is clickable, enabling users to view or modify prompts driving the process and even add new steps on their own through Opal’s toolbar. This system offers an intuitive, code-free way to design app logic.

When the app is ready, users can publish it online and share a link to allow others to try it out using their Google accounts. While Google’s AI Studio is aimed at developers building apps from prompts, Opal’s visual interface shows Google’s intent to reach a broader audience and empower non-technical users to prototype apps effortlessly.
