Text Posts are Coming to TikTok
Since its inception, TikTok has positioned itself as a platform for posting short videos. Later, the developers added support for photos to lure away a part of the Instagram audience. Now they are introducing the ability to publish text content. What prompted the idea was a large-scale exodus of users from the microblogging service Twitter, which was caused by questionable decisions taken by the leadership of this network – for example, restrictions on owners of free accounts. Many users roam the Internet searching for a new platform for posting texts. So why not offer them what they want? The new functionality will give content creators the opportunity to share on TikTok not only the usual videos but also the author's stories, lyrics, poems, and other creative works.
When opening the application and clicking on the central button, the user will be able to select the format of the generated content: video, photo, or text. When you select a text, it will be redirected to the page for creating it, which contains all the tools necessary for this. A number of settings can be applied to a printed post: choose a background color; add audio, tags, hashtags, and stickers; mark geolocation; allow comments and duets. All this suggests that the text content published on the social network, in terms of dynamics and interactivity, will practically not be inferior to photos and videos. Also, the function of saving the post as a draft will be available here for further editing or, if necessary, deleting it.
Regarding the launch of the novelty, representatives of TikTok noted in the official blog that their social network strives to provide its users with innovative tools that improve the possibilities of self-expression. From their point of view, giving the text format, which users are already familiar with from comments and video captions, a separate space can expand the scope of content creation on TikTok.
