Google is notifying advertisers of the implementation of a new policy – checking ads for compliance with quality standards.

In October of this year, Google will introduce new, more stringent requirements for the "destinations" of advertisements. The search engine will now check landing pages for compliance with the "Better Advertising Standards" developed by the international association "Coalition for Better Ads". Notifications about this innovation are already sent to advertisers by e-mail. Although the exact date of its introduction does not appear in the letters, it is clear that there is a little less than a month left to put their advertising in order. From October 2022, every infringing ad will be disapproved.

What awaits violators? Google will automatically reject every ad that doesn't meet the standards and directs the user to a web page with intrusive ads. The advertiser will be informed that the ad was rejected by the system in the ad quality report.

How do you know if your ad meets the standards or not? Violations include:

  • animation;
  • popup windows;
  • automatic start of video playback with sound;
  • ad interruption of content viewing;
  • ads that hide its content from the visitor of the page;
  • prestige ads (displayed before loading a web page and force you to click on them to access the page);
  • postial ads (start a countdown and allow you to access content only after it is completed);
  • large ads that remain in the visitor's field of vision, despite the fact that he scrolls down the page;
  • an advertising density rate greater than 30%.

According to representatives of the Coalition for Better Ads, advertising should be useful, functional and easy to navigate. Therefore, focusing primarily on the comfort of the visitor to web pages, Google will actively fight intrusive ads.

Advertisers are now encouraged to self-check their ads and make appropriate adjustments if any deviations from the standards are identified. Ads that have been put in order in a timely manner will not be rejected.
