Nofollow

Nofollow is an attribute for the rel meta tag that marks hyperlinks to specific pages of a website or third-party resources (rel="nofollow"). It prevents search robots from following marked links and indexing them.

Another Nofollow value is not an attribute, but a separate meta tag that is placed in the HTML code of web pages and has a similar effect, preventing bots from visiting and indexing individual web pages or entire sites. It is marked like this:

<meta name="robots" content="nofollow" />

Nofollow links are of great importance for SEO-optimization of sites, since indexed links to advertising, irrelevant or simply dubious resources can worsen website rankings. In addition, the position of the site in search engines is negatively affected by the imbalance between links, so it is better to mark some links to third-party resources with the Nofollow attribute. Another useful purpose of Nofollow is the fight against "spam" links, thanks to this attribute, any links in comments can be made non-indexed by default.
