On February 14, the GitHub service announced the completion of beta testing of the corporate version of the Copilot AI code completion tool and its release to the public. The cost of this assistant programmer is $19 per month.

Copilot is a collaboration between GitHub and OpenAI, launched in 2021. It is an AI tool that integrates into the code editor as a plugin, takes context from the code written by the developer, and offers a range of options for continuing it: from a few lines to entire functions, tests, and even complex algorithms. In the process of use, it gradually adapts to the style and programming conditions of the person working with it.

Thomas Dohmke, CEO of GitHub, said that enterprise and corporate development teams can now use Copilot seamlessly. Currently, this tool is already used in their activities by more than 400 companies, and the demand for it is constantly growing.

The business version of Copilot is based on an improved model from OpenAI. It received many new features, among which it is worth highlighting the following:

  • "fill in the middle";
  • recognizing common vulnerabilities in code and suggesting a safer option;
  • administration of company policy;
  • license management;
  • expanding privacy functionality;
  • connection support through a proxy.

Thomas Dohmke predicts that Copilot will soon be able to generate 80% of code. Today, it can already add 61% of the code for Java and about 46% for other languages.
