The new model, covering even rare African and Asian languages, will provide access to the most modern technologies to people around the world.

Meta has introduced a new multilingual translation model called NLLB-200. The company is making the NLLB-200 data available to developers as open source and is even offering grants to develop applications based on the new translation model.

NLLB stands for No Language Left Behind, and this is the name given to the company's ambitious project. Its goal is to develop a technology using artificial intelligence that could translate with high quality between all existing languages. Accordingly, the number 200 in the name of the translation model marks the first intermediate success - the company introduced a technology that successfully copes with translations between 200 languages. Among them are quite rare African and Asian languages.

Confirming the high results of the presented translation model, Meta presents the results of the respected test FLORES-101. For the rarest dialects of African and Indian languages, the test showed more than 70% higher translation quality than most modern technologies in this area. For other languages, the result, although lower, is no less impressive. On average, the superiority of NLLB-200 is confirmed at about 44%.
