It is worth noting the three most common Meta Tags that matter for SEO-optimization of sites:
- Title. This tag denotes the title of a web page that appears in natural search results, contextual advertising ads, and browser bookmarks. Search engines limit the length of the Title, for Google it is 70 characters including spaces, and for Yandex it is 80.
- Description. This meta tag denotes a short description of the web page in the search results (snippet), which is placed under the Title heading. Search engines do not impose specific requirements on the size of the Description, the optimal amount of text for it is 150-200 characters, including spaces.
- Keywords. This meta tag includes a list of keywords that are most relevant to this page. Previously, this tag was considered mandatory for successful SEO promotion of sites, but since 2009 Google has stopped taking it into account, so now Keywords only matter for promotion in Yandex.
In addition, there are a number of meta tags of a technical nature that are necessary to customize information for the purpose of internal optimization of a web page. These include tags Robots, Content-language, Content-type, Refresh and others.
